The Location
Where you will be staying
Hunstanton is famous for being the only eastern seaside resort that actually faces west, so gets the most amazing sunsets right over the sea. The resort was originally founded in Victorian times by Henry Styleman Le Strange, who’s family still reside locally. The beautiful Victorian and Edwardian villas, many built from carrstone or ‘honeystone’ as it’s known locally, found in the historic quarter of the town reflect this former glory. A wander around this part of the town is something many visitors miss, so it is worth a visit to to the local Heritage Centre to find out a bit more.
Of course many people flock to Hunstanton for the beaches, which are sandy and backed with dunes and beach huts. To the south end of the beach you will find traditional seaside treats like a children’s fun fair, slot machines and some glorious fish and chips! Head to Reg’s for fish and chips with a view over the Wash from their balcony, front row seats for the sunsets.
Hunstanton is the perfect place for a weekend break or a family holiday, with plenty to do for everyone.
A 15 minute stroll along Chapel Bank (quiet lane opposite) takes you to St Mary the Virgin’s Church, the duck pond and entrance to Le Strange Hall Park (usually open to the public for a circular walk through on Thursdays). Alternatively, 5 minutes walk from Beach Haven along Chapel Bank, you can take the footpath ‘Lovers Lane’ leading towards Ringstead Downs Nature Reserve. For a longer walk, why not follow the Norfolk Coast Path past Old Hunstanton village to the Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre at Holme Dunes. The North Norfolk Coast is well known for birdwatching and the Titchwell Marsh RSPB Reserve is just a 10 minute drive from Beach Haven.
