Our Guide to Norfolk Beaches

Snettisham Beach world famous for the Snettisham Spectaculars. Once of nature’s most iconic sights. Witness thousands of seabirds like knots and oyster catchers feasting on the rich  mud of The Wash. At high tide they lift off in a huge rush of wings and swoop over your heads to the safety of the inland fields. It is spectacular! The pink foot geese also use this area as a safe roost at night, and the sight of them honking their way overhead in their thousands is another sight not to be missed. In the summer Snettisham is an escape from the crowds and you can always find a peaceful spot here. Here are our holiday cottages in Snettisham

Hunstanton Beach Here is the traditional holiday Norfolk beach, with the fair and fish and chips and rock pools. Hunstanton is a lovely seaside resort that has retained it’s quaintness and not succumbed to trends. There is a lovely promenade with plenty of opportunities for snacks and fun along the way.  The iconic red and white stripey cliffs are best viewed from The Wash Monster, a vintage military amphibian craft!  Catch the amazing sunsets from a rooftop bar or paddle board on the shallow waters. A great family holiday destination. Holiday cottages in Hunstanton are here.

Old Hunstanton Beach is one of the best sandy Norfolk beaches in the area, flanked by dunes and pretty beach huts. The Beach Café next to the Lifeboat Station has served icecream and meals since the 1920s. The Lifeboat Station holds regular open days and is regularly called out so you may get an opportunity to see them in action. Holiday Cottages in Hunstanton here.

Holme next the Sea is a much quieter beach, backed by the RSPB reserve. A mecca for birdwatchers, along with the neighbouring Titchewell. Terns nest on the beach in the season and dogs are requested to be kept on a lead. It’s a great winter beach as you generally won’t see anyone else. The area is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Holiday cottages in Holme next the Sea here

Brancaster probably one of Norfolk’s most famous beaches. Miles and miles of sand backed with dunes and the links golf course. There is a small beach kiosk and a pay car park, watch the tide times as the car park gets cut off from the road during high tides and you will have to wait until it has gone out!

Cromer Beach Cromer is a lively Victorian seaside town with it’s iconic pier which houses one of the last end of the pier shows in the pretty theatre. The beach is busy and very popular. A surfing culture has grown up in recent years with the Glide Surf school offering equipment hire and lessons. A good way to spend a wholesome day! Excellent seaside food and good rail links make this a perfect holiday destination. Holiday Cottages in Cromer here.

Sheringham Beach Sheringham is a seaside town that has changed little. Fishing boats still bring in the crab pots, and it’s history is deeply steeped in fishing. Quaint cottages and plenty of independent shops make this an excellent holiday destination. The beach is sandy and you can hire paddle boards.  The beach is backed by a lengthy promenade that is accessible to wheelchairs. Holiday Cottages in Sheringham here

Overstrand Beach Once called the Village of Millionaires, Overstrand is steeped in history. It is a bit of a secret place to visit but once you have been you will want to return again and again. Crab boats still are hauled up the steep path from the beach and the freshest lobsters and crabs are sold from the crab shack on the cliff top. The beach is sandy and perfect for swimming or surfing. Overstrand is a great place for family holidays in Norfolk and is one of our favourite Norfolk Beaches. Holiday cottages in Overstrand here.

Mundesley  Beach Mundesley is another secret place to which visitors in the know return year after year. An unspoilt but very well served village with a beautiful sandy beach. A recommended beach. Holiday Cottages in Mundesley here.

Salthouse and Cley Both beaches are renown for migrating birds and beach fishing. Probably not good for swimming unless you are a strong swimmer and the beach is steeply sloping and stoney. The walks along the coast here are amongst the finest in Norfolk. Very wild and windswept and great in the winter. Managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust who have a magnificent visitor centre which makes excellent cakes and scones. Holiday Cottages in Cley   Holiday cottages in Salthouse
